Conway Twitty was a Country music icon, a businessman, a theme-park owner and fast-food chain founder. Prior to undergoing his C&W makeover in the mid-sixties, he existed as a first rate rock & roll singer. For some reason this latter credibility has lagged behind in the man’s career overviews, which is nothing short of a travesty. Good as his country sides are, they don’t have the testosterone and the kinetic energy of the MGM recordings he laid down during the late fifties. Conway could roar like the lion on the MGM crest head, and he couldn’t get enough of the rock & roll stuff that drove his desires
.Compiled by Stuart Colman, Tell Me One More Time features the pick of the lip-curling litter that Conway Twitty bequeathed to Metro Goldwyn at the Owen Bradley studio in Nashville throughout a 28-month period beginning in May 1958. There is no shortage of compilations of Conway’s country repertoire, but until now his exhilarating rock & roll sides have been under-represented. Tell Me One More Time sets things to right, with a selection which includes the chart-topping ‘It’s Only Make Believe”, 8 further US hit singles and ‘Rosaleena’, which was recorded specifically for UK release.
